The Big Picture

I'm not sure how many "first day of school" days are allotted to a kid, but I kinda feel like Viv has used all of hers. Tuesday marked her third "first day of school" for the 2021-2022 school year. She's gone from a few (ill-fated) days at the neighborhood public school, back to homeschool, and now back to Saint Mary where it all started. Viv made it though her first semester of 6th grade there before Covid hit, and now she'll finish her last semester of 8th grade there as well.

Middle school semester bookends.

Seems like things have come full circle...full circle with a ton of detours.

Homeschool was never meant to be a permanent solution, but I am thankful that we were able to do it given the circumstances of a Covid world. And more than anything, I'm proud of Viv and I. We didn't just survive...dare I say, we thrived. That's not to say it was easy (at all!) or that there weren't any tear-filled days (there were plenty!) but the big picture is clear now.

The big picture is that Vivian and I brought out the best in each other over our year and a half at home, and the 'best in each other' was completely and totally worth it.
