Dirt Jesus

Image
A few weeks ago Vivian had an art assignment to create a portrait of Jesus out of mud. She was super excited about it and worked really hard on it. I give you...Dirt Jesus. Here's the thing though. Dirt Jesus was made weeks ago but none of us could bring ourselves to throw him away. He just followed us with his eyes around the house. We'd move him from one tabletop to another...always looking...always watching. Eventually, I took him to the kitchen thinking maybe if I left him by the door it would be easier to "accidentally" throw him away. That didn't work. He just stared at us from the kitchen. Finally, last week Maxwell did it. With great hesitation, and most likely a confessional prayer, he put Dirt Jesus in the trash.  Dirt Jesus...this is what quarantine memories are made of.

Weekend Celebrations

Friday we celebrated Maxwell's 20th birthday! How can that be? Twenty years. Putting my pride for him into words is hard.  He's easy to love. He's easy to trust. He's easy to talk to. He's building his legacy in ways that I never would have thought of when I was 20 years old. His world and worldview are much bigger than himself. He's going to make his mark on our world, I have no doubt. Happy birthday, my boy. I love and I couldn't be more proud of you. 7:30am heading out for a birthday hike with Henry We had no idea how much this kid reads so we got him a Kindle... ...and an ax...because he wanted an ax... I honestly didn't know that I bought trick candles! Viv was especially freaked out! ...and poor Wicks too... We finally got all 20 of them out without burning down the house! Happy birthday, Moose!! And yesterday was Mother's Day. The weather was absolutely perfect. We spent the whole day outside. In the m

Titi Creek Trail

Of course the boys would find a hike called the "Titi Creek Trail". It's part of the Florida Trail that stretches from Pensacola to just south of Miami. Last Friday, Maxwell and Henry hiked 15 miles of it. They had perfect weather, plenty of food and water, and pretty sore feet afterward, but both agreed that it was totally worth it. They're headed back out on Friday for another 15 miles on a different stretch of the trail!

April Quarantine in Pictures

I dropped a dumbbell on my foot and didn't break anything...I consider that a win.  I cut Henry's hair with dog scissors and not to toot my own horn, but TOOT! TOOT! It looks good! And then we had a tornado...in the middle of the stay-at-home order... we had to shelter-in-place... Five minutes after the tornado sirens went off, I had a scheduled zoom meeting with three of my students... So there I was...hunkered down in the bathroom with three kids, a guinea pig and a shitzu trying to keep calm enough to calm my students down.  It went something like, "ok, guys. Those are the sirens again. Everyone has an adult with them, right?? Ok. I'm going to end our zoom and I want you to go right to your adult, ok?? OK?? Ok, good. Ok, I'm going see you all tomorrow, ok??" Here's the tornado that touched down about 3.5 miles from Camp Pinchot. This one had me nervous.  But, aside from the tornado, we had some had really nice da
