Love, Viv

Image
I went with Matt into his office a couple of weeks ago now. I hadn’t been in there since March and I saw this up on his white board. It’s a note Viv left for him months ago, but really, nothing has changed for us since then. As some peoples lives go “back to normal”, there are so many other people who are still working tirelessly to keep us all safe and informed.  We haven't seen him much in the last few months, but that's ok. The kids and I couldn't be more proud of the work he's doing.

Viv Down

Image
Friday afternoon Viv and I were picking up pine needles from the shore that had washed up from the tropical storm. There was a ton of them and Viv was a trooper...until she jumped to dump her pile of pine needles onto the bigger pile and came down funky on her ankle and landed right on a tree root. She swelled and bruised pretty quickly but we didn't take her into the ER until Saturday afternoon. I try not to get concerned until Matt does, and when he said he was worried, he took her in. It's been six months since one of us had to go into the ER, so I guess we were due... Thankfully, it's just a sprain. Nothing is torn or broken so she's hanging out on the couch, drinking her coffee, icing her ankle and reading her books. She'll be up and running in no time...  ...and still smiling...

21 Years Strong

Image
Two weeks have past but here are a few pictures from our anniversary weekend. We took the jet ski out by ourselves and watched a beautiful sunset with Viv. 21 years, 3 kids, 9 military assignments and countless laughs. Life hasn't been perfect but it's been pretty darn good and I wouldn't change a single thing. Here's to the next 21! May 29, 2020

Dirt Jesus

Image
A few weeks ago Vivian had an art assignment to create a portrait of Jesus out of mud. She was super excited about it and worked really hard on it. I give you...Dirt Jesus. Here's the thing though. Dirt Jesus was made weeks ago but none of us could bring ourselves to throw him away. He just followed us with his eyes around the house. We'd move him from one tabletop to another...always looking...always watching. Eventually, I took him to the kitchen thinking maybe if I left him by the door it would be easier to "accidentally" throw him away. That didn't work. He just stared at us from the kitchen. Finally, last week Maxwell did it. With great hesitation, and most likely a confessional prayer, he put Dirt Jesus in the trash.  Dirt Jesus...this is what quarantine memories are made of.

Weekend Celebrations

Friday we celebrated Maxwell's 20th birthday! How can that be? Twenty years. Putting my pride for him into words is hard.  He's easy to love. He's easy to trust. He's easy to talk to. He's building his legacy in ways that I never would have thought of when I was 20 years old. His world and worldview are much bigger than himself. He's going to make his mark on our world, I have no doubt. Happy birthday, my boy. I love and I couldn't be more proud of you. 7:30am heading out for a birthday hike with Henry We had no idea how much this kid reads so we got him a Kindle... ...and an ax...because he wanted an ax... I honestly didn't know that I bought trick candles! Viv was especially freaked out! ...and poor Wicks too... We finally got all 20 of them out without burning down the house! Happy birthday, Moose!! And yesterday was Mother's Day. The weather was absolutely perfect. We spent the whole day outside. In the m...
